THE Junior Football season kicks off this weekend and the Collie Eagle Juniors have been busy preparing for Round 1 which starts at the Collie football oval this Friday night, with the year 10/11 team launching the season playing under lights at 6pm.
Last week a group of players went to Binningup for an overnight preseason boot camp, with team building exercises and activities on the beach and at the local oval, including shooting for goal while being blindfolded with teammates directing by voice where to kick. The boys were joined by a nutritional and fitness/recovery expert Rachel Norman who works for the WACA with junior cricket development squads. Norman took the players through some exercises and stretching and recovery techniques. This is the first time an event like this has been held by the Junior Football Club, but with its success next year’s event is already being discussed as bigger and better.
On Monday the junior footy club took part in the Anzac Day march and service at Soldiers Park. A great turnout of junior players and parents joined together in the parade, before meeting up with the senior club to attend the service.
This weekend in Round 1 the year 10/11's play at home on Friday night, year 8 and 9 teams travel to Dunsborough on Saturday, and the year 7's play at home on Saturday.
