MAY is bowelscan month and a simple scan could potentially save your life.
The Rotary Club of Collie is running the program for the seventh year in a row and are providing test kits that could catch the disease early.
Rotary runs the Bowelscan program to help West Australians get into the habit of repeating the test annually, and is provided as a community service, not as a fundraiser.
Last year Rotary Collie sold 143 kits, and 187 kits were sold in 2014.
The simple kits are one way to detect the killer disease early, and they are to be posted back in a reply paid envelope for free testing provides by Western Diagnostic Pathology.
It is recommended that anyone over 40 should take the test.
Bowel cancer is Australia’s top internal cancer, killing more than 400 men and women every year.
Every two hours in Australia someone dies from bowel cancer, and the risk of developing bowel cancer jumps significantly from age 40, and doubles every five years until age 60 when the risk increases even faster.
Bowelscan’s medical co-ordinator will notify you or your GP if the test comes back positive.
The easy to use kit costs $15 and is available from Mick Murray’s office and Collie Red Cross Shop.
