Under 13’s
COLLIE Under 13’s travelling team took on Australind Tigers in horrific weather at Australind last Saturday. Australind came out strong, with the wind somewhat in their favour during the first half and were able to score two successive goals. Justin Davis did an amazing job at keeping under pressure from the Tigers as the ball remained in Collie’s half for most of the game. Campbell Watt and Lachlan Papalia worked hard at trying to relieve the pressure from Justin Davis in defence. Methias Ellefsen and Liam Donovan rallied to assist in defence but the Tigers proved too strong in the first half resulting in a score of 2 nil at the end of the first half. In the second half Jack Costa was able to sneak a goal in bringing the score to 4-1. The weather did little to assist either team and all players tried their best in extreme conditions. The final score was 6-1 to the Australind Tigers who were definitely stronger in their passing and control of the ball. Ultimately credit must go to Justin Davis who worked tirelessly to keep the score at 6-1.
Under 16’s
SATURDAY’S match in Harvey against the Hawks saw a blustery start, with rain, hail and thunder not long before the kick off. Collie Under 16’s fielded a full team of 11 players on a wet pitch. First half had Declan Rochester as goalkeeper, showing much effort considering the slipperiness of the ball, and saving a few good shots by Harvey. Adam Cronin, Jess Carter and Cameron Boland put up a great effort in defence, with the Hawks having many excursions into their forward half. At Collie’s other end, Justin O’Halloran and Dylan Gaynor put a lot of pressure on the Hawks defence, with a few shots on goal. Luke McCormick had to go off at one stage with a blood nose, leaving the team with 10 on the field for a short time. One shot had Ethan score accurately, giving Collie it’s first. Harvey answered straight away and at half-time the score was 5 -1. Campbell Papalia, Adam, Jess and Cameron were again fantastic in their efforts in the back line, causing problems for Harvey. Dylan Gaynor, who seemed to be everywhere in this game, had some near misses from his corner kicks and it was Justin who managed to get Collie’s second score from a tough tussle in the goal area. Up forward again, Dylan was awarded our third goal from another well executed corner kick. Not long after, Ethan took a run from near the halfway line to score a fourth past Harvey’s goalkeeper. This half saw great efforts from the Collie team to outscore the Harvey Hawks but at full-time the score was Hawks 7 – Collie 4.
