The Federal Government’s National Broadband Network has connected to over 370 homes and businesses within the Shire of Collie.
The connection has covered areas surrounding Collie’s townsite, thanks to the official switch-on of an NBN fixed wireless tower in the region.
NBN spokesperson Philippa Perry said the network is designed to effectively assist homes and businesses across urban, rural and regional areas.
“For decades, rural and regional Australia has been left behind when it comes to telecommunications,” she said.
“The fixed wireless service is designed to provide access to internet speeds and bandwidth that many in the big cities currently take for granted.
“It will also assist Australians living in regional areas like Collie to set up their own small businesses or deliver work from home.”
Construction within Collie and Allanson’s townsites is due to commence later this year.
The construction of fixed line technology has commenced in Bunbury, while fixed wireless technology has been switched on in Balingup, Greenbushes and Donnybrook.
More than 160,000 premises across Western Australia are now eligible for NBN connectivity.
Connection includes three steps:
1. Checking www.nbnco.com.au to see if you are eligible to connect.
2. Contacting your phone or internet provider.
3. Organising a service qualification check from your chosen provider to arrange free installation of the necessary network equipment.
