RECENTLY the Shire of Collie’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention (CSCP) Committee applied for, and received, funding from the Western Australia Police Community Crime Prevention Fund for a campaign to raise the awareness of domestic violence in Collie.
Family and domestic violence is behaviour which results in physical, sexual and / or psychological damage, forced social isolation, economic deprivation, or behaviour which causes the victim(s) to live in fear.
Shire President Wayne Sanford said it is important to provide everyone a safe environment in which they can live and develop in our community.
“This campaign will provide the people of our town with the information necessary to make choices to be safe. I encourage everyone to take action against domestic violence in Collie,” he said.
There are many services available to help victims and perpetrators to end the cycle of domestic violence, and anyone affected is encouraged to contact the women’s helpline on 1800 007 339 or the men’s helpline on 1800 000 599.
Details of other domestic violence related assistance is available from the police, doctors and hospitals, the advertisements and flyers.
The ‘Raise your hand against domestic violence in Collie’ campaign will include posters placed in public amenities, interviews on the Collie Community Radio with families of people affected by domestic violence and local police, flyers placed in local businesses and agencies, and adverts in the Collie Mail.
