A Perth father accused of setting his daughter on fire as she slept after celebrating her fourth birthday will likely apply for a judge-only trial.
Edward John Herbert, a tiler known to neighbours as "Eddy", allegedly doused his three-year-old daughter and her two siblings in petrol and set them alight at their home in Holbeck Street in Doubleview, on August 28, 2015.
The children's mother ran into the street for help, alerting two neighbours.
One of the neighbours was an off-duty police constable who extinguished the seriously injured three-year-old girl using a blanket.
Mr Herbert was initially taken to the secure Frankland Centre at Graylands psychiatric hospital but has since been transferred to Hakea Prison.
He appeared on Thursday via video link charged with threatening to kill, being armed or pretending to be with intent to cause fear, committing an act likely to endanger human life with intent, unlawfully to kill and intent to harm and admitting to an act resulting in life, safety or health being endangered.
Mr Herbert is yet to enter a plea to his charges.
A provisional trial date was not set because his defence lawyer was waiting on the finalisation of reports.
His lawyer indicated that Mr Herbert would be making an application for a trial by judge only.
He was remanded in custody to appear again for a status conference on August 18.
