The Collie Horse and Pony Club Inc, Collie Junior Cricket Club, and Collie Eagles Football Club Inc are among 70 sporting and recreation clubs in the region that will receive $500 grants to purchase new sporting equipment.
Nationals Member for the South West Region, Colin Holt, said the Community Sporting Club Equipment Subsidy Scheme provided clubs across regional WA with funds to purchase new equipment.
“The funding will go towards essential tools for clubs, like uniforms, bats and balls, so they can continue to provide an important physical activity and social service to their community,” Mr Holt said.
Clubs receiving the subsidy in the South West include the Dunsborough Cricket Club, the West Coast Outrigger Canoe Club and the Bunbury Motorcycle Club.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Mia Davies MLA announced the funding today.
"This subsidy allows clubs to upgrade equipment which has seen better days, been ruined in the course of use or lost along the way. It's also an opportunity for clubs to add to their equipment stock and be able to field a new team or invite more people to participate," Ms Davies said.
Mr Holt said Nationals WA recognised the important role of sport and recreation in regional WA.
“Grassroots sport and recreation plays a central role in ensuring vibrant and active regional communities. It’s important we help athletes in the regions reach their full potential,” he said.
“Every club in regional WA is able to access the subsidy and I urge local clubs to check if they are eligible.”
The latest round of the Community Sporting Club Equipment Subsidy Scheme will deliver a total of $312,500 to 625 regional clubs thanks to Royalties for Regions.
