NEW facilities for Collie’s CBD have been given the green light.
Abenra Construction builder and property owner Phillip Greaves said development of a Red Dot superstore and Plus Fitness 24-hour gym, on the corner of Johnston Street and Harvey Street, was underway.
Mr Greaves said the facilities will boost Collie’s economic and employment futures.
“Directly and indirectly it will create 50 jobs and having a 24-hour gym in Collie is going to be huge for the town,” he said.
Collie Chamber of Commerce and Industry inc. president Glyn Yates said the opportunity suits Collie’s ever-changing identity.
“Those who own the land, who have bought the land, have seen a commercial opportunity to fill a gap that is not currently being filled in town which is fantastic news that people, in a time of change and uncertainty, can see positive opportunities,” he said.
Construction has been scheduled for completion in February 2017.
