Labor has made fresh claims the state government risked the safety of children by ignoring warnings not to open the Elizabeth Quay Water Park.
Opposition planning spokeswoman Rita Scaffioti said on Wednesday new evidence obtained in Freedom of Information documents showed the government opened the park despite the detection of harmful in water samples, amid other safety concerns.
"This is the first time we have written evidence the water park was opened despite warnings it was not ready to be open," Ms Saffioti said.
"As a mother of three young children, the idea you would open a park when there were concerns being raised by the City of Perth and the Department of Health is significant."
FOI documents obtained by the opposition from the City of Perth reveal email correspondence raising health and safety concerns over the water park just prior to its gala opening.
The day before a certificate of compliance was issued by the Health Department on January 29, the city's Environment and Public Health Manager Eugene Lee wrote "the Water Playground samples are still poor, and DOH have advised the facility can't be used until water results are satisfactory."
The City of Perth also raised concerns with the Health Department about inadequate lighting.
"Apparently there remains an issue with the lighting and therefore cannot be operated with lighting on," a project co-ordinator from the City of Perth write.
Despite this, the Department of Health issued a certificate of compliance.
Taxpayers splashed out more $3million to finalise the construction of the BHP Billiton-sponsored park, which has been plagued by problems since it was opened in January.
The park has been forced to close multiple times due to the detection of harmful bacteria in water samples, and in March a five-year-old girl was allegedly left partially blind in one eye from an infection following a visit to the water park.
Health Minister John Day denies the state government disregarded warnings not to open park.
"I am advised the approval and licence to operate the Elizabeth Quay water park that was given by the Department of Health on the day it opened on 29 January this year was valid," he says.
"I understand that the Health Department provided the approval after considering a range of matters, including due consideration for the health and safety of public users of the facility, and its decision met relevant Health Regulations."
