But tens of thousands of West Aussies have put in super hero worthy efforts to run, walk or cheer on the 42nd annual running of the Chevron City To Surf for Activ in Perth.
Gathering in darkness at 6am, the marathon runners braved 8 degree conditions to kick the event off, followed by half marathon runners/walkers and 4km run/walk/wheelchair participants across the morning.

The cold weather didn't deter spectators who lined St Georges Terrace to cheer their mates - the finish line at City Beach also had a good turnout.
Some roads in the Perth CBD and along the race route were closed but have now been reopened to traffic.
