THE Under 13 travelling team took on the Australind Lions at home on Saturday in the final game of the season.
Australind were short of two players which gave Collie the opportunity to produce a strong score, the local crowd were not disappointed.
Jack Costa came out firing on all cylinders to produce an early first goal.
This brought out the best in the forward line and there was a flurry of near misses from Methias, Lachlan and Jake Pitchers.
Methias went on to score a second goal to celebrate his birthday, much to the spectators’ delight.
Australind fought back but Collies’ defence and keeper Liam Donovan managed to prevent them from scoring.
Alby Flynn was doing some magnificent kicking in the mid field and it wasn’t long before Jack Costa bought the score to 3-0.
Collie continued to attack Australind’s goals and it was just before half-time when Lachlan Papalia set up a beautiful pass for Jack Costa to thump into the goals bringing the score to 4-0.
Jack then took over as keeper for the second half giving Liam Donovan a chance to stretch his legs in the forward line.
Katelyn Werner was persistent in her attack in the mid field and sabotaged much of the Australind forwards’ passing.
It was unlucky when Australind managed to get the ball through Collies defences and there was little Jack Costa could do as they kicked their first goal bringing the score to 4-1.
Collie responded by pushing the ball consistently into Australind’s half with the whole team displaying great passing and ball possession and once again Justin Davis and Erfan were unlucky not to score.
It was Liam Donovan who managed to score Collies’ fifth goal after a great display of putting his body on the line and ground as he penetrated Australind’s defences.
Jake Pitchers then scored a goal for his dad as an early Father’s Day present, bringing the score to 6-1.
Much to the Collie spectators’ delight, in the dying moments of the game Justin Davis scored a great goal bringing the final score to 7-1.
Leon Pitchers has done an excellent job of coaching this team and it must be said that the whole team have improved and showed excellent teamwork over the season.
If the current players decide to return next year the team will be a real force to be reckoned with.
Well done to all involved, you represented Collie well.
