LAST Saturday was grand final day for the South West Junior Football League, with the Collie Eagle Juniors being represented by their year 7 and 8 teams.
Year 7’s
THE Year 7's were up first against a very good Marist team who were undefeated all season leading into the grand final.
Marist showed early why they hadn't lost a game all year kicking the first four goals with some sharp ball movement.
From there Marist were able to continually build their lead throughout the game and ran away comfortable winners.
Collie were dealt an unfortunate blow in the opening minutes with Darcy Stinten, who was fantastic the previous week, suffering a collar bone injury.
The Collie boys never gave up and showed that they deserved to be in grand final with some spirited efforts throughout the game.
Zac Pilatti once again played well across half back, Jack Bury, Carson Dewar and Mathew Gadenne continually battled hard and Jack Ugle provided good effort in the forward line.
All the boys should be extremely proud of their efforts this season.
Year 8’s
THE Year 8's got off to a nervous start in their grand final game against Dunsborough, with Collie conceding the first three scores of the game, luckily all behinds.
The opening goal was a great passage of play that saw Jaxon Pitts dash out of defense and take three bounces, before hitting Alex Davidson 50 metres out from goal.
Alex got the ball on to Riley Brown who slotted a nice goal on the run.
Collie lead by three points at quarter time.
The second and third quarters were very tight, Jayden Bertolini-Wolfe and Jaxon Pitts were fantastic for Collie who were both dominant in the air, as well as providing run and carry.
The tackling pressure from Riley Brown and Hayden Mears was also very good.
Early in the last quarter the game was still up for grabs with Collie leading by a couple of goals and Dunsborough continuing to fight hard.
Mid way through the quarter Collie got the ball forward to Regan Wassman who snapped a dribbling goal from deep in the pocket to all but seal the win.
In the end Collie were crowned premiers with a convincing 4.5.29 to 1.7.13 win.
Jaxon Pitts was awarded best on ground for the grand final.
