A group of juvenile credit card scammers using ride-sharing service Shofer seem to be continuing on their crime spree - despite two of their members being charged by WA Police in August.
WA Police issued a statement two months ago, when the Technology Crime Services department received reports of fraudulent credit card activity occurring throughout Australia.
The group allegedly used stolen credit card details in order to pay for services such as cinema tickets, fast food, hotel accommodation and clothing over the phone or online.
Once the order was made, they would attempt to obtain a cash refund or use a ride-sharing service to collect goods.
An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were charged with fraud offences in relation to the Australia-wide scam, but the run-in with authorities doesn't seem to have deterred the rest of the group.
Perth Shofer IT and operations manager Jeffrey Eaton said it seemed not only was the group back riding with the service the very next day, but they were still using stolen credit cards.
"They have between four to six rides a day, while we do refuse service when we realise it is them, they are persistent in creating additional logins by buying new cheap phones.
"They're getting very cheeky- they'll request from another address and then say 'no I'm not there, I'm at another address' and the driver will have to go and get them."
Mr Eaton said the scammers were taking four to six trips a day, and Shofer had the technology to identify them correctly.
"Our contact centre has a list- including previous video still shots- of the fraudulent users, so they can identify quite quickly," he said.
"Once we collect the information we require, we then report it to WA Police for the formal investigation."
