CROWDS are expected to descend on the Collie Race Course this Saturday for the highlight of the local racing calendar, the annual Collie Cup race meeting.
Collie Race Club are hosting the event, with the main race, the Collie Crane Hire Collie Cup to be run over 2000m in the afternoon.
The first race kicks off at 1.20pm with the Applecross Electrical and Testing Services Collie Sprint over 1400.
Collie Community Bank and TABtouch will be providing supporting races on the day, which has a 6 race program.
The Cup race has 6 quality starters in the field. Last years winner Cushryn, and second place Gee Pee Ess, are both engaged but will face stiff opposition from the last start Moora Cup winner, Quintessence.
Local trainer Chris Gilbert, who trained a double at Leinster last week, will have four runners.
This year the Club has constructed a new undercover area from the side of the canteen from which all the activities can be viewed.
Fashions on the Fields will also be a highlight with great prizes in all sections.
Fine, warm weather is forecast and the Club is anticipating a large crowd to enjoy the atmosphere that only Country racing can deliver.
Families can be assured of a fun day out with plenty of space to enjoy themselves.

Extra ablution blocks have also been installed.

Fashions on the Fields will be a highlight with great prizes in all sections. The winner will receive, as part of the prize, a weekend for two at Holiday Inn, Perth City Centre. BTECH Electronics will compare the Fashions and keep the crowd entertained for the day, whilst a Bouncy Castle and face painting will keep the children amused.
After the last race DJ Jarrod O’Brien will provide entertainment until 8.30. Buses will return patrons to the CBD from 7pm. Gates open at 12 noon.
