Collie will be a sea of pink later in the month, with people from all walks of life coming together to raise funds for women’s cancer.
Two local women have organised a Think Pink breakfast event to raise funds for the South West cancer support network.
Tamsin Emmett and Lisa Gillespie are hosting the Think Pink event with all funds raised going to Dot’s Place and Solaris Care.
The duo said they decided to host the event after a mutual friend was diagnosed with the disease.
“Someone very close to both of us suffered from breast cancer almost exactly a year ago,” Ms Emmett said.
“We just wanted to give back and say thank you to all of the services that really helped her and helped us too.”
“We hope that people will know about these services as well, and try and put that out there for people because we had to go looking to find them.
“Initially, Lisa and I went looking for support and fortunately Dot’s Place helped us to get started with somewhere to go for advice and guidance.”
Ms Gillespie said there will be a guest speaker at the event to educate people on the services available in the South West.
“Diane Pope from Dot’s Place is coming to speak at the event and a representative from Solaris Care,” she said.
“We are going to have a lovely hot breakfast and a welcome glass of champagne for anyone who wants it.
“We have some fantastic raffles, spot prizes, silent auction and a quiz, all kindly donated by the Collie community.”
“Unfortunately everyone is touched by cancer in some way, so it is a good chance to support this worthy cause.”
Cancer Council Southwest regional education officer Diane Pope said events like this are held across the South West to support women with cancer.
“You will not be able to escape the sea of pink during October - it’s the month that women all over the South West will be getting together at various functions to support women’s cancer fundraising events and have a lot of fun in the process,” she said.
There will be information on the services available in the South West available on the day.
