The trailer for Hugh Jackman's final film as Wolverine is here and it's shaping up to be one of his greatest performances yet.
Due in cinemas March 2017, Jackman plays a troubled and aged superhero in X-Men spin-off, Logan.
Judging by the 90-second trailer released on Friday, Logan looks unlike any other film in the X-Men franchise. It's gritty, dystopian and spliced with epic car chase scenes.
Set in 2024, all that remains of the original X-Men team is Wolverine and the group's aged leader, Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart).
Jackman will portray an aged and weaker Wolverine who has fallen from grace and is battling alcoholism and constant pain. Xavier's telepathic abilities are also diminished.
Wolverine is called to help a young girl who shares his mutant abilities of retractable claws and superhuman strength, given to her by a government organisation turning children into assassins.
The Logan trailer has worked fans of the franchise into a lather who've commented on the fact Logan doesn't look like a traditional superhero film, but an old Western.
"This is the Wolverine I've been waiting for," one fan commented on Twitter.
It's an epic finish for Jackman who's played the comic book superhero since 2000. The 48-year-old has played Wolverine seven times, including in two stand-alone films.
Last year, Jackman revealed it was the right time for him to bow out.
"It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years," he said on the Dr. Oz Show in 2015.
"I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."
Director James Mangold, who helmed 2013's The Wolverine, has returned for Jackman's swan song. Patrick Stewart also gives his last performance as Charles Xavier.
Narcos actor Boyd Holbrook stars as the head of security for the shadowy government organisation.
Logan hits US cinemas on March 3, with an Australian opening date yet to be announced.

Kudos to everybody involved in Logan. A dramatic, comic book western? With Cash's NIN cover? Sincere, honest, nerdy hugs all around.— Zelda Williams (@zeldawilliams) October 20, 2016
