More changes are afoot at 6PR as the radio station shuffles the deck and shapes up for a better 2017.
Drive presenter Adam Shand has decided to return home to Melbourne at the end of the year and on Tuesday resigned from the broadcaster, owned by Macquarie Media.
"Contrary to recent media reports, Adam has made this decision in light of his family situation, and a search for his replacement is now under way," 6PR commercial director Barry Quick said.
The announcement comes after Peter Bell left 6PR earlier in the year to host the morning show on ABC.
Shand, who has hosted Drive for the past two years, spent much time travelling back and forth to Melbourne, which proved difficult for him and his family.
"I'd like to thank Adam for his contribution and wish him well for the future, as he explores new opportunities," Mr Quick said.
Shand is currently in discussions with Macquarie about developing other forms of content for the network, which could include podcasts. Fairfax Media recently launched its first major podcast venture, Phoebe's Fall, profiling the tragic death of Phoebe Handsjuk in a Melbourne elevator shaft in 2010.
Shand, whose last day at 6PR will be Friday December 2, has been a forthright voice for the station, and often stirred the pot with his coverage of social issues and local politics, calling out Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi a few weeks ago for failing to go on his show.
There have been suggestions Shand's replacement could be current Mornings host Gary Adshead , with Channel 9 journalist Liam Bartlett - a former 6PR broadcaster, whose had his own run-ins with Ms Scaffidi - moving into an AM slot.
