The Collie Eagles Football Club club rooms played host to some of Collie’s most talented athletes for the Shire of Collie Sport Awards on Friday, November 25.
Collie underwater hockey player Hayley Digney was awarded the JL Mumme Medal, accepting the award from Shire of Collie president Wayne Sanford.
Ms Digney participated in the Collie Underwater Hockey Senior division as well as umpiring and mentoring junior players throughout 2016.
Ms Digney also played in the Collie Underwater Hockey team for the State Championships and was named 2016 State Underwater Hockey Female Sports Person of the Year.
Speedway racer Jake Avins won the Young Sportsperson of the Year award, collected by his father Greg Avins on his behalf.
Collie Women’s Hockey Association umpiring coordinator Cara Swan won the Special Achievement award.
Ms Swan had won the 2016 Women’s Umpire of the Year award in the South West Hockey League Association.
Kym Latham, of the Collie Swimming Club, won the first Robinson-Hannan Volunteer of the Year award.
The award is sponsored by two-time Olympian and Shire of Collie Wall of Champions inductee Fiona Hannan.
The event included a talk with guest speaker and Australian Olympic Triathlete Ryan Bailie, interviewed by Peter Fergie.
