Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union members at Premier Coal have donated $2000 to recently sacked workers at Carlton and United Breweries.
AMWU State Secretary Steve McCartney said the members worked together to raise funds.
“Members took a collection after calling for donations for the 55 workers sacked from Carlton and United’s Abbottsford brewery,” he said.
“These workers were sacked after refusing to accept a 65 per cent pay cut after CUB changed the maintenance contractor.”
Mr McCartney said the AMWU members’ actions sent a strong message.
“I’m always pleasantly surprised about how much our members understand solidarity and their constant willingness to help each other,” he said.
