The Energy West Social Club Hall has been given a new lease on life with help from a community bank branch and local contractors.
The hall, located on Lefroy and Forrest streets in the CBD, has been given a fresh coat of paint as well as new planks covering the exterior of the building.
Bendigo Bank Collie and Districts Community branch chairperson Jeff Riley said the Energy West Social Club committee members came to the branch with the idea.
The branch’s board members discussed the idea before accepting the project, providing funds for the refurbishments.
“Most of the time people approach us with a project, and once they approach us as a board we decide if we fund it or not and this one we felt like it was in dire need of an uplift,” he said.
“Being a hall in the centre of town they pointed out to us that they haven’t got a lot of members anymore and can’t get a lot of help around the place so we basically agreed to fund 100 per cent of the paint work and we could pick the colours and they basically agreed with that.”
Energy West Social Club secretary Leo DeAngelis said all funds raised by the club go directly into the hall.
Mr DeAngelis said community groups have always helped each other. The group has also planned to redevelop the playground on the premises.
The hall regularly holds events for groups such as the Shire of Collie, Collie Chamber of Commerce, primary schools and sporting clubs.
The Energy West Social Club Hall was relocated from Norseman in 1922.
