Premier Colin Barnett met with a protest group in Collie last week while visiting the Shire of Collie office.
Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union and Griffin Community Protest Group members discussed Griffin Coal’s termination of the Maintenance Enterprise Agreement for 70 maintenance workers.
AMWU State Secretary Steve McCartney said it provided an opportunity to voice their concerns.
“His silence over the long-running Griffin dispute is deafening, his government continues to ask the Federal Government for more 457 visas while locals don’t have jobs,” he said.
AMWU SW Organiser Brant Softley said it provided a chance to interact with the WA Premier.
“There were certain sections of Collie that want some answers as in regards to the future of jobs and also the way certain multinational companies are treating people within Collie and they wanted to know the Premier’s stance on those things and they also wanted to have their voices heard in front of him,” he said.
