Collie Art Gallery is set to be the first place in Western Australia to host an exhibition that depicts the life story of Anne Frank.
The gallery secured the exhibition after being awarded a $3000 grant from the South West Development Commission as part of their event grants.
Let Me Be Myself - The Life Story of Anne Frank will launch at the Collie Art Gallery on May 26.
Collie Art Gallery Coordinator Payam Parishanzadeh said the grant will allow the gallery to bring over the historical exhibition from New South Wales.
“The Gallery aims to provide historical as well as cultural experiences for the public and this, as well as the Camera on Gallipoli exhibition planned for the 2017 programme will provide a range of experiences for the public that relate to important epochs of our time,” he said.
“We envision that this display will be a valuable resource for school children and their teachers as well as the general public.”
On February 4, 2013 the travelling exhibition ‘Anne Frank, A History for Today’, was officially opened in the Jewish Holocaust Museum and Research Centre in Elsternwick, Victoria. In 2015 the Anne Frank House introduced a new generation of travelling exhibitions: "Let Me Be Myself - The Life Story of Anne Frank".
The Anne Frank House created a travelling exhibition to reach as many people in their communities as possible; serving to help people and schools organise other events to support the overall project.
The Anne Frank House was established on 3 May 1957, with the close involvement of Anne’s father, Otto Frank.
It is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Anne Frank’s hiding place and her diaries, and to spreading the message of Anne Frank’s life and ideals worldwide.
On the basis of Anne Frank’s life story, set against the background of the Holocaust and the Second World War, the Anne Frank House develops educational programs and products with the aim of raising young people’s awareness of the dangers of anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination and the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy.
Collie will be the first place in WA to show the exhibition, after that it will go to Kalgoorlie and Wanneroo.
Let Me Be Myself – The Life Story of Anne Frank will be at the Collie Art Gallery from May 26 to July 9 2017.
