A coronial inquest will be held later this year into the cold case disappearance of a woman who went missing in Broome almost 18 years ago.
Petronella Albert was 21-years-old when she vanished in Broome in 1999.
She was last seen leaving her home at 8.30pm on April 18, 1999. She has not been seen or heard of since and her body has never been located.
The WA Coroners Court has set a two day inquest in early July into the case. The hearing is expected to take place in Broome.
WAtoday can reveal WA Police provided a coronial report into Ms Albert's disappearance to the Coroner's office in March last year.
"The Special Crime Squad conducted a review of the case in 2015 and following the completion of the review recommendations, all known investigative opportunities have now been exhausted," a police spokesperson said.
"It would be inappropriate for police to speculate about the outcomes of this inquest now that the matter is before the Coroner."
Normally, inquests are held so that the Coroner can examine the full circumstances surrounding the death of a person.
Witnesses are called to give evidence and exhibits are tendered to enable the Coroner to make findings in relation to that person's death.
It is unclear at this stage how many witnesses and who will be called to give evidence at Ms Albert's hearing in July.
However, it's anticipated the witness list will include Ms Albert's friends and family and police officers who investigated her disappearance.
Broome musician and actor Stephen "Baamba" Albert, Ms Albert's uncle, said he was pleased an inquest would be held.
"I think its about time something happened because we have heard nothing," Mr Albert said.
"It would be good to find out what happened."
