Year 5/6 students at Allanson Primary School explored the area’s flora and fauna as part of the CSIRO’s carbon kids sustainable futures program.
The kids, along with deputy principal Mark Gledhill, roamed around the school looking for native and introduced plant and animal species to document.
They also took part in classroom activities discussing climate science, climate change, greenhouse gasses and emission reduction.
CSIRO carbon kids sustainable futures program officer Belinda Bloxsome said the students’ findings would be added to the Atlas of Living Australia database.
She said, by the end of the year, field guides would be created to chronicle each school’s work.
Ms Bloxsome said the databases would then be utilised by scientists and community groups in the future.
