WA’s most notorious roads will be targeted as part of a $44 million road safety boost aimed at saving lives and reducing serious injuries on regional roads, according to federal member for O’Connor Rick Wilson.
Federal minister for infrastructure and transport Darren Chester said he would seek additional funding from the state government to add to the federal government’s new investment in reducing road trauma.
Mr Chester said a disproportionate number of country people are dying and being seriously injured on country roads.
The road toll for WA currently sits at 61 fatalities with 34 of those occurring on regional roads.
The last fatality in the Collie area occurred on Good Friday when an 18-year-old man passed away.
