A large black dog – Ridgeback Mastiff cross which was stolen two weeks ago from the Collie Shire pound, has been recovered.
The dog was recovered by the Shire of Collie following information received from a member of the public regarding its whereabouts.
The Shire Pound was broken into by two individuals on June 7, causing significant damage to the entrance and locks, and in the process of the break-in those two individuals took a dog from the premises.
The shire has since repaired the damage caused during this incident and are planning to upgrade security systems to ensure that further break-ins do not occur.
According the the shire, this dog was previously involved in a dog attack and had been found wandering the streets on a number of occasions.
The shire is currently undertaking action against the dog owner in relation to these matters.
The shire received information from a member of the public who stated that they knew where the stolen dog was being kept.
The shire thanked members of the public for assisting with information leading to the recovery of the dog.
“The public’s support and help in these matters is very much appreciated and we continue to encourage people to provide this type of support,” a spokesperson for the shire said.
Shire officers with assistance of Collie police, entered the property and seized the stolen dog. Police are continuing to look for information from the public relating to the break-in at the pound.
Criminal charges can be placed with penalties including lengthy prison sentences and substantial fines if convicted.
Collie Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar said inquiries were still continuing into the matter.
“Two offenders possibly a male and female suspect entered the pound, stealing the dog,” he said.
“We are looking for some further information. “A person was questioned in relation to this but as yet no person has been charged.”
