A 30-year-old former Collie resident came close to receiving a term of imprisonment after being charged for multiple offences between August 2016 and July 2017.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Karl Rep said the first incident occurred when Adam William Cable drove behind the victim’s vehicle at around 2.40pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016.
Cable and the victims got out of their cars before the situation escalated.
He then punched one of the victims, a 22-year-old man, in the face and then punched the victim’s brother on the right side of the face.
Cable then got a shovel out of his car and smashed the victim’s vehicle. He was then spoken to and arrested by police later in the day.
Cable saw the victim’s car at 6.50pm that day, then caused more damage to the vehicle with a metal spanner.
Overall, he caused $1030.48 in damages to the vehicle.
Cable also faced charges of breaching a community based order in February 2017, breaching bail in December 2016 and July 2017, and obstructing public officers during an incident in August last year.
Sen. Const. Rep revealed Cable, at around 9.25pm on August 13 last year, shouted abuse, swung his arms, kicked out his legs and then struggled while being placed under arrest.
Sen. Const. Rep said the prosecution was seeking penalties on the lower end rather than a term of imprisonment.
Cable attended and represented himself in Collie Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 9.
Cable told the court he was not looking for the victims, it “just happened”. He admitted he moved his family to Perth last month to escape trouble.
Magistrate Millington could not give the discount for the two common assault charges as Cable had originally pleaded not guilty.
“It’s clear, looking at your record, Collie is not the best place for you to be,” he said.
In discussing the other charges, Millington told Cable that police “have a hard enough job to do” and there was “no real reason” why he had not previously turned up to court.
Cable received a one year term of imprisonment suspended for 12 months, a $1450 fine, $3688 in costs, and compensation costs for the victim’s car. He was made eligible for parole.
Also in last week’s court proceedings, Bradley Raymond Ingram, 35, was penalised for possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop last month.
Ingram, at 9.40pm on July 4, was halted by Collie Police for a random breath test and licence check on Throssell Street.
A pat down search revealed a small clipseal bag containing less than a gram of amphetamine. “I just eat it”, the accused told police regarding the drugs.
After being arrested and taken to Collie Police Station, a strip search unveiled a glass smoking implement hidden in Ingram’s front, left pants pocket.
He told police he: “yeah that’s mine, I used it last week”. Ingram laid an endorsed plea of guilty for both charges but did not attend court.
Ingram was handed a $600 fine and $190.85 in court costs over the charges.
A destruction order for the drugs and smoking implement was also granted.
