Collie police are targeting copper thefts around Collie following reports of several lots of copper stolen in the past few weeks.
Collie police Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar said they are stepping up resources to prevent further copper thefts in the area.
“We are looking at putting resources into patrolling some of the back tracks that offenders use and targeting where we know items have been left,” he said.
Collie police are currently investigating two burglary offences occurring in Collie in the past week. A house in Park street was broken into on August 31.
“The offender has smashed the front window to gain entry, once inside they have stolen various items of property, some of that property has been recovered by us and we are continuing investigations,” Senior Sergeant Soutar said.
A burglary offence also occurred in Atkinson Street some time between August 31 and September 1.
“The offender entered through an open window. Nothing appears to be stolen at this stage but the offenders went through the house,” Senior Sergeant Soutar said.
Police arrested a 20 year-old Collie woman on September 1 for breaching a violence restraining order.
“She attended a property that she wasn’t allowed to go to, and was apprehended in a taxi shortly afterwards. She was held without bail and appeared in court the next day,” Senior Sergeant Soutar said.
Collie police seized two off-road motorbikes on the weekend. Senior Sergeant Soutar said people need to be aware of the new legislation that gives police the power to seize off-road motorbikes.
“It’s not like the vehicle seizure legislation where you can go and get it back after an amount of time. Once the bike has been seized, chances are you will not get it back,” he said.
“It is an issue in Collie, we do not like seeing unlicensed trail bikes on the road.”
