Collie Riding Develops Abilities has received a grant for $20,000 as part of the ‘Local Projects, Local Jobs’ grants for local organisations.
‘Local Projects, Local Jobs’ funds small projects in Collie-Preston that will be spent in the area to help stimulate the local economy, drive local job creation and support our community organisations.
Member for Collie-Preston Mick Murray presented the grant last week, which will be used by Collie RDA to improve facilities that will allow easier access for their disabled participants and keep both participants and onlookers out of the weather.
Centre Manager Jo Williams has said that the $20,000 will be put towards purchasing and installing an automatic gate at the entrance and landscaping the driveway.
A covered walkway that links the bathrooms, clubrooms and riding arena will also be constructed. All projects will seriously improve access for disabled participants and onlookers and participants will be better protected from the elements.
Member for Collie-Preston Mick Murray said the RDA provides a much needed facility for people living with disabilities.
“Collie RDA, like many other RDAs across our state, provides such a great program for our young people living with disabilities keeping them active and giving them great opportunities to form new friendships through RDA,” he said.
“I am very happy to be able to support them with a ‘Local Projects, Local Jobs” grant of $20,000 that I promised them would come at the election.”
“What’s more this $20,000 will go to some of our local businesses right here in Collie keeping people in a job.”
“So, on one hand as local member I get to support a great organisation like Collie RDA and also inject a bit of money into our local economy.”
Collie RDA Centre Manager Jo Williams said the money will be spent locally.
“We are thrilled that Mick has been able to deliver the grant to Collie RDA and attend today’s events.”
“The $20,000 will be put to good use protecting our participants and onlookers from the elements and also improving access to the facilities.”
“I will be making sure that the money is spent locally as well so that our local businesses benefit from the government’s ‘Local Projects’ Local Jobs’ initiative.”
