Two teens escaped serious injury when their 4WD ran off a cliff and fell 20 metres onto rocks at Forster overnight.
Police have been told the 17-year-old driver and his 16-year-old female passenger were sitting in the car at Forster’s Second Head Lookout about 9.30pm Monday, when they went to drive away.
Instead, the vehicle crashed through the barrier and plunged 20 metres down the cliff face.
It landed 20 metres below and only a large boulder stopped the RAV4 from continuing into the ocean.
People in a second vehicle parked at the lookout alerted emergency services, and police from Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics climbed down to the teenagers, who had climbed from the wreckage unassisted.
They were checked by paramedics before being taken to Manning Base Hospital as a precaution. Police have been told they suffered minor cuts, bruises and possible concussion.
The driver has undergone mandatory testing.
Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW helped at the scene. The vehicle is yet to be retrieved.
