Collie Police Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar is reminding the community to be mindful of home security after a spate of burglaries in town.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, there was an attempted burglary in Park Street, a burglary in Mary Street, a burglary in View Street and another burgalry in Walsh Street.
Senior Sergeant Soutar said three of the premises had occupants at home during the burglaries, which occurred between the hours of 2.30am and 4am.
“They heard noises, the offenders have removed fly wires from windows to gain entry,” he said.
“I can’t express how important home security is for people. If you are going to have a window partially open it needs to be secured with a lock or at least a bit of doweling that prevents it from being opened any further.”
Police are investigating after an incident at the Crown Hotel on Saturday night left a man in his 30’s with a broken nose.
“There was a fight out the back which then spilled out onto the street, involving about 12 patrons,” Senior Sergeant Soutar said.
“One male was taken to hospital with a broken nose and inquiries are continuing.”
Police arrested a man after a burglary in Atkinson Street, at about 9am on Tuesday morning.
“A female was out of the house for ten minutes, left the back door unlocked, and an offender has entered, stolen various items including a purse and Ipod and left, all within ten minutes,” Senior Sergeant Soutar said.
“The good news is, we actually caught two people approximately five minutes after they had done it.”
“We caught two people who we believe were involved and as a result of getting CCTV and witness accounts, we managed to recover all of the property that was stolen.”
As a result, a 20 year-old male from Collie has been charged with burglary and stealing offences and he was remanded in custody overnight, where he appeared in Bunbury court.”
Senior Sergeant Soutar also expressed his gratitude to the Collie community for attending the National Police Remembrance Day which was held in Collie last Friday.
