Elite athletes visited Collie recently as part of a program aimed at promoting the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle. The Champions 2 Country South West regional tour took in 13 schools across five towns, inspiring more than 2000 children over three days.
During a visit to Amaroo Primary School, Mick Murray MLA introduced the athletes, who spoke to year 4, 5 and 6 students about motivation, resilience, goal setting and working hard to achieve your dreams. Athletes conducted sporting clinics and attended a community breakfast where Mr Murray spoke about sport’s important role in building communities, belonging and lifelong friendships. An athlete panel event was held for the South West Academy of Sport to inspire the next generation of country athletes.
The tour was an initiative of the WA Olympic Council and Commonwealth Games Australia WA Division in partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Culture and the South West Sport and Recreation Office.
