The Rotary Club of Collie Apprentice of the Year Awards were held at the Collie Ridge Motel last Thursday night to acknowledge apprentices in the community.
Synergy Muja power station apprentice Max Vlasich took out the third year apprentice award.
“I feel very privileged to win such an important award to the Collie community,” he said.
Rotary Club of Collie president Eric Parsonage said they hold the apprentice awards to acknowledge the exceptional work young people do.
“We believe that the young people in Collie are exceptional and we have some of best apprentices in the state and we think it's important to recognise the quality of our young people,” he said.
Shire of Collie deputy president Ian Miffling said out of the 18 finalists, everyone was a winner.
“Out of all the things that Rotary does, I think it’s one of the best things they sponsor because I think the education of our youth is something that is so vital to the community. I know they have to pick a winner but in my opinion all the young people standing up there were a winner,” Cr Miffling said.
Griffin Coal electrical apprentice Brayden Kent won the first year apprentice award and hopes to move into engineering in the future.
“I’m very honoured to receive this award and I’m proud of my efforts. My goal is to move into engineering after I complete my apprenticeship,” Mr Kent said.
Mr Vlasich said he hopes to move into the technical side of his job.
“I took on extra study through my apprenticeship and completed my cert IV in engineering on top of my cert III that is required for my mechanical fitting trade. I would like to keep going forward in my trade with more study and move into the technical side of fitting for future job opportunities that may arise,” he said.
