“Our biggest achievements are partnering with Alzheimer’s WA, providing our residents with quality care and creating a strong employee wellness program, which includes free health checks, providing staff with free counselling and taking away uniforms and encouraging staff to wear bright colours and swapping out structured staff meetings for open forums.”
The Collie Police and Community Youth Centre was nominated for the Community TAB Community Service Award.
The award recognises individuals, as well as groups, who excel in their community sector, profession, or field and make a significant contribution through community service or social justice initiatives.
Collie PCYC manager Linda Gallagher said the centre was pleased to have been nominated.
“It’s an acknowledgement of how far the centre has come in the last two years,” she said.
“It’s no longer the place where the disengaged youth hang out solely, it’s the place for all youth of Collie.
“We have turned the centre into an attractive, vibrant and engaging place that opens its doors to everyone and has the ability to turn the lives of children around. This creates a positive hub of influence that has a ripple effect for individuals and groups alike.”
Collie PCYC Advisory Committee chair Geoff Wilks said it was amazing to see all the positive impacts the PCYC was having on Collie’s youth.
