An incredible tenth club championship was won by Chris Stewart after the completion of round four of the club championships last Sunday.
Since winning his first title 20 years ago, Stewie has many more golfing years in front of him and potentially many more championships.
Stewart’s total gross score was 315 after the four rounds of 18 holes. Runner-up with a total of 333 gross was Dave Blurton with Danny Cheng, also on 333, relegated to third on a countback.
Finishing fourth overall with a 336 total was Colin Giblett, one ahead of Warren Hann on a 337 gross.
In the nett division, Dave Blurton triumphed with a total of 301, closely followed by Trevor McCormick who was runner up with a total of 302.
Danny Cheng, with a total of 305, finished third followed by Brett Smith on 307, Colin Giblett on 308 and Warren Hann on 309.
The third round of the club championships was sponsored by Geoff Lee and Denis Cocker.
Winning the nett section in convincing style was Brett Smith. Big Smithy played a top round of golf throughout the day, scoring a 69 nett to win the first place trophy.
Runner-up, on 72 nett was Alby Hunter. Nice to see Alby in the winners circle, his game improving week by week to a steady, consistent level.
Captain Clayton Flynn finished third, on a count back, his nett score also being 72.
Dean Rakich, Regan Old and John Wray each returned a 73 nett, followed by Colin Giblett on 74 and John Michalak on 75.
Rounding out the vouchers, each with 76 nett were Joe Italiano, Ed Riley, Jimmy Barclay (By GC), Warren Hann, Neil Motion and Phil Warburton.
Chris Stewart won the gross trophy for his 80 off-the-stick, one shot ahead of Colin Giblett who accepted the runner-up trophy for his gross round of 81.
Nancy Lynn won the ladies competition with a score of 34 points.
Novelty winners were: Nearest the pins – Dave Farr (4), Nancy Lynn (4), Trevor Lawrence (7), Trevor McCormick (14); Longest first putts – Danny Cheng (6), Wayne Waywood (9), Chris Stewart (18); Long drive on No.15 – Kyle Hulls.

Following the leading pair were Dave Blurton, Steven Ireland and Danny Cheng, each scoring 75 nett.
Chris Stewart, with 77 off-the-stick was the day’s best gross score, followed by Danny Cheng on 82 and Dave Blurton on 83.
Novelties were won by Warren Hann (1), Brett Smith (2), Chris Stewart (8,11 and 16), Danny Cheng (9), Dave Blurton (14) and Steven Ireland (18).
Paul Moyses won last Thursday’s nine-hole scroungers comp with a score of 19 stableford points.
Runner-up on 18 points was Doug Crowe, on a spin from Brian Banks, also on 18.
Ray Cooper and George Newlands were next, each scoring 16.
The head scrounger felt generous, paying vouchers to Darren O’Brien, Joe Italiano, Kevin Ireland and John Williamson, all of whom scored 15.
Novelties were given to Alan Kent (4), Doug Crowe (6) and Phil Eldridge (9).
Last Thursday’s leisure day competition was won by Terry Reeves with the admirable score of 39 stableford points.
Colin Giblett was runner-up with 37 points, while Phil Warburton, third, was the day’s best vet with his 36 points.
Doug Crowe finished fourth with 34, one ahead of Tiger Jackson, on 33.
Vouchers were paid down to 32 points, the recipients being Mun Lye, Steven Ireland and Stephen Farquhar.
Novelties went to Graham Williams (4), Mun Lye (14), Mick Jack (9), John Wray (7) and Terry Reeves (18).
This Saturday’s event will be a 4BBB stableford, sponsored by Challenge Chemicals.
