Eight athletes from the Collie-Preston area are among 57 South West athletes to share in $31,000 worth of funding from the Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme.
The scheme assists regional athletes aspiring to compete at the highest levels by offsetting out-of-pocket travel and accommodation costs.
The eight local athletes to receive funding compete in a range of sports, including darts, hockey, off-road riding, polocrosse and football.
“Travelling costs for regional athletes can often be too much for the family budget and leaves many young athletes unable to attend important competitions and training events,” Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray said.
