WEST Arthur Shire Council staff worked until midnight Sunday to clear fallen trees from roads.
Before another wild storm was expected, shire chief executive officer Nicole Wasmann said on Monday that work crews returned early but still had not managed to make all of the shire’s roads passable.
“Not all of the roads are clear yet but we hope to have them all open by Tuesday evening,” she said.
West Arthur was “the same as other areas in the south-west, with trees and debris on the roads — there were not many local roads that were not affected”.
Power went off on Sunday afternoon and was not fully restored until 3.40pm Monday, Ms Wasman said.
It had come on first at 10.30am but was on and off until mid-afternoon.
“You had to remember to boil the kettle while it was on,” she said.
