COLLIE’S primary schools have given their support to the Rotary Club of Collie's Clean Up Our Roads Campaign.
Principals from the various schools met with campaign committee members at Wilson Park Primary School on Tuesday to make plans for their involvement.
The schools are planning poster and slogan competitions to go on public display before the first of the clean-up days late in March.
Rotary club president Bob Greig said the involvement of the schools and their students was a very important part of the campaign.
“Not only are the schools going to provide us with slogans and posters, but they are also actively promoting clean roads to their students,” Mr Greig said.
He said cleaning up roads was only a small part of the campaign.
“The aim of the campaign is more about changing attitudes and forming good habits among our young people and the schools’ involvement will go a long way towards achieving this.”
It is hoped to use some of the students’ work on shire banners, in Forrest Street, and at Collie Boulevard displays, as well as in a special Collie Mail feature.
In addition to the schools’ involvement, campaign organisers are seeking help from Collie groups to assist in the clean-up days.
“We really would love to hear from any Collie clubs who would like to assist with the clean-ups,” Mr Greig said.
Rotary has scheduled a total of six clean-up days.
They are on Saturdays and Sundays, March 28 and 29, April 11 and 12, and April 26 and 27 beginning at 7.30am and concluding with a sausage sizzle.
Groups will be allocated various sections of roads and be supervised by Rotary members.
