Quiz fanatics across Collie are coming together to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
The town’s World’s Greatest Shave team is holding a quiz night on Saturday, February 25 at the Club Hotel on Forrest Street.
The event kicks off from 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
Organisers are aiming for tables of six, with guests competing over 10 rounds covering various topics.
The night will also include a raffle and door prizes, with donations made by local businesses.
Tickets are available from Collie Public Library, with all proceeds going to the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
World’s Greatest Shave team volunteer and quiz night organiser Sara Cole said she has been involved in the World’s Greatest Shave campaign previously and aimed to help people in the community.
“My aunty Helen [Winfield] has been involved in the Greatest Shave and Leukaemia Foundation for a very, very long time and about two years ago I participated for the first time, I’m not brave I didn’t shave I went blue with the hair,” she said.
“I became involved because everybody’s got somebody they know who is affected by various cancers and what not and I just wanted to help aunty Helen out.
“With the Leukaemia Foundation we can see the services that they’re providing so it’s not just going into the research it’s actually actively providing support services particularly for regional Western Australians, [and] all over Australia.”
Collie’s World’s Greatest Shave event will take place on Saturday, March 18 at the Crown Hotel, with multiple community members opting to shave or colour their hair for Leukaemia and blood cancer research.
The night will also include an auction.
The group is currently holding a stall once a month at the Collie Country Markets, organised by the Collie Agricultural Society.
The Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave first began in 1998.
This year’s campaign hopes to raise $17 million.
Shaving and colouring takes place from March 16 to 19.
Western Australia has so far raised over $225,000 for this year’s campaign.
