The Shire of Collie is getting ready for its annual Harmony Day festivities.
The event is being held in the Good Sheds On Tuesday, March 21 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
The music shell will host activities such as an aerial silk display, Spanish dancing, drumming by PCYC participants and poetry.
Food tasting will also be part of the event.
Shire of Collie chief executive officer David Blurton said the event invited everyone in town.
“There will be plenty of activities to keep the children, and the young at heart, entertained including origami, lego, roving puppets, face painting, bubbles, loose parts play and much more fun to be had," he said.
“Hosting Harmony Day in Collie would not be possible without the generous support of volunteers and community organisations.
“2017 is no exception with many different nationalities represented at the food stalls run by members of the community, and the Collie Early Years Network is once again providing activities and valuable support for the event.”
Mr Blurton said the event illustrated the importance of diversity and multiculturalism.
“It is important to celebrate the diversity and recognise the many different cultural backgrounds that form part of the fabric of the Collie community,” he said.
“The different cultures that exist within our community are what has helped to shape Collie into the welcoming, generous and accepting town that we are renown for.
“Continuing to celebrate this diversity keeps these important values and cultures at the forefront of our community spirit.”
South32 has come on board as this year’s Harmony Day event sponsor.
Worsley Alumina Vice President Operations Dino Otranto said sponsoring the event was part of South32’s commitment to Collie and the Central Park.
“The message of Harmony Day is everyone belongs and that aligns with South32’s value of care and supporting inclusive communities,” he said.
