Federal Assistant Minister for Social and Disability Services the Hon Jane Prentice MP visited Collie recently during a trip around O’Connor and the South West.
Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson MP invited the Assistant Minister to town, following the Shire of Collie winning the Excellence in Inclusive Community Design Award in the 2016 National Disability Awards.
Mr Wilson said the Minister met with the Collie Shire Council and then visited the swimming pool to see the purpose built access ramp suitable for wheel chair access and people with impaired mobility.
“The Minister was very impressed at the excellent disabled access facilities Collie has to offer,” he said.
“After seeing for herself the great work being done in Collie to improve access for people with disabilities, the Assistant Minister reiterated how deserving the Collie Shire was of this national award.
The Minister also congratulated shire staff and councillors and the Disability Access and Inclusion Committee members on their terrific work to improve Collie’s amenities.”
