The Collie Railway Station Cafe has signed up to join the WA Coffee Stop Program network, coordinated by the WA Local Government Association’s RoadWise program.
Through the Coffee Stop Program, which aims to encourage drivers to stop and take a break to prevent the onset of fatigue and fatigue-related road trauma, we will now be providing free coffee or tea for drivers.
Driving while tired is dangerous and fatigue is estimated to be a factor in up to 30 per cent of fatal crashes on WA roads.
Jeanette McLaren-Hall, Collie Railway Historical Society President, said they were excited to join other Coffee Stops around WA to help target driver fatigue by promoting the many ways people can combat fatigue.
“Too often people drive long distances after working all day or after a full day’s activities. With fatigue setting in after approximately two hours of driving, that’s when people should take a break,” she said.
“Before setting off on your journey, plan ahead, swap drivers where possible, stop for a break or coffee, or stop to have a short sleep.”
