I am a long term resident of Collie having lived here for 35 years, married to Darryl who was raised in Collie– with three adult children – Jenna, Tyler and Shannen.
I have been a member of the school P and C and actively involved in sporting clubs over many years including playing, coaching and committee member.
I have been a Harris River Bush Fire Brigade member for 18 years and FCO for over 10 years.
I was elected as a Shire Councilor in 2009 and served my four year term but regrettably was unable to re-nominate due to my employer not allowing shift swaps to attend meetings.
Having worked in the coal industry for over 33 years I have a sound knowledge of the industry.
I have grave concerns on where our industries are heading and the impact on local community. The increase of the drive in drive out workforce is alarming.
This results in a lower population directly affecting our essential services and business owners.
We need to push for local employment and encourage employees to live locally.
We need to maintain and increase all of our services.
This will benefit people both now and for future generations. Collie has a number of alternative attractions available to the community that can help its economy.
A lot of these are well underway – motorsports, water activities, mountain biking, Bibbulmun Track and bush walking.
My plan is to keep these attractions on the right path to success and look for new opportunities.
