The majority of cases in the Collie Magistrates Court last week again involved drug, driving and minor theft offences.
Cheryl Anne Park, 60, was fined $600 after being convicted of stealing and trespassing, but had a charge of burglary dismissed. She was also ordered to pay compensation of $80 to the victims and $190 in court costs.
Luke James McGrath, 22, was convicted of dangerous driving, driving without a licence, failing to stop for police, cultivating a prohibited plant and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia.
He was fined a total of $1600 and ordered to undertake a 12-month community-based order. Magistrate Mark Millington also ordered the items destroyed.
Bryce Russell Tate, 21, was convicted of possessing methylamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia and driving without a licence. He was fined $800 and ordered to pay costs of $100.
Sean Fisher, 21, was fined $500 and ordered to pay $100 in court costs and $535.50 in compensation after being convicted of causing criminal damage.
Meanwhile, in the District Court in Perth, Christopher James Wilson, 30, who was born in Collie, has been sentenced to six years in jail for killing a man with a king hit.
Wilson pleaded guilty to one charge of assault causing the death of Patrick Frederick Healy, 46, last December.
The court was told Wilson had known Healy for about a week when the incident occurred after an argument.
Mr Healy suffered an injury to the back of his head and a fractured jaw.
In sentencing, Judge Ron Birmingham said there was no justification for Wilson’s actions.
“It’s a logical consequence that when you get drunk you engage in violence and in this case with a tragic outcome.”
