The Collie Golf Club has changed their constitution to give female golfers the same rights as their male counterparts.
At the club’s annual general meeting on October 29, the board approved a change to remove gender specific language from the constitution.
The change means there are no longer any gender limits on who can become a member of the club. Previously, women were only allowed to join the club as associates and could only play on certain days.
Women will also now be able to hold seats on the club’s committee.
Collie Golf Club president Regan Old said the change was needed to make sure the club was “equal opportunity” for all of its members, with women making up approximately 20 per cent of the club’s membership.
The change brings the Collie Golf Club into line with many other golf clubs in the South-West, who have made similar changes over the last few years.
Mr Old also said he hoped the change would convince more women to play golf and join the club.
