Collie’s most talented athletes gathered at the Collie Eagles Football Club club rooms on Friday, November 24 for the Shire of Collie’s annual sports awards.
Woodchopper and greyhound trainer Grant Campbell was awarded the JL Mumme Medal for sportsperson of the year.
Mr Campbell was unable to attend the ceremony due to the birth of his first child earlier that morning, with his father Michael accepting the award on his behalf.
Mr Campbell was awarded the 2017 Axeman of the Year by the Western Australian Axemen’s Council, along with 26 wins from 96 starts as a greyhound trainer.
Hockey player Emily Antonovich was awarded the Young Sports Person of the Year award, while Annabelle Biffin won the Special Achievement award for her work as an underwater hockey umpire.
Paul Reuben, the president of the Collie Junior Cricket Club, won the Robinson-Hannan Volunter of the Year award.
The event also included a Q and A session with women’s football and touch rugby state representative Philipa Seth.
