LAST Saturday the Year 8s played Grammar at Roche Park.
Grammar won the toss and sent Collie in to bat with Josh Elliott and Max Ireland opening up.
Elliott was first out caught for three with the score 1/10.
Adam Worlley joined Ireland for a 26-run partnership before Ireland was out caught for 17.
Worlley was also caught soon after for nine and the score was 3/46.
Blayden Coverley and Judd Rinder added another 21 runs together before Coverley was out for his new highest score of 19 just before the 15 over change.
Blake Shepherd playing his first game for the Year 8s came in and defended the last ball before the break and Collie were 4/68 after 15.
Jackson Broadbent picked up a wicket first over caught by Ireland, then Zak Rueben hit the stumps in his first over to have Grammar 2/0.
The next batsman for Grammar were proving hard to remove with Robbie Chitty bowling three overs 0/11, Baxter Miller three overs 0/12, Blake Shepherd two overs 0/8 and Blayden Coverley one over 0/4.
After 15 Grammar were 2/52.
Blake Shepherd and Judd Rinder resumed batting and added another 18 runs before Rinder was out caught for 16 with the score on 5/85.
Shepherd was given his chance to come up from the Year 7 team for this game due to his good attitude, and willingness to learn and improve his game.
He was retired not out for three runs after staying in the middle for around seven overs.
Liam Wilson was next out bowled for 0, then Baxter Miller was bowled for five to leave Collie 7/103 with only a handful of overs left.
Zak Reuben was bowled for four trying to chase quick runs, Jackson Broadbent was retired on four not out, Robbie Chitty made seven not out and Taj Jackson two not out.
Collie finished 8/122.
Taj Jackson started off the second stint of bowling and finally got the third wicket caught by Robbie Chitty with the score on 64.
Jackson finished with two overs 1/10.
Adam Worlley (three overs 1/13) took the next wicket bowled with the score 4/68.
Judd Rinder two overs 0/16, Josh Elliott one over 0/6, Liam Wilson one over 0/14 and Max Ireland two overs 0/22 all tried for the fifth wicket before Zak Rueben, who bowled five overs 1/9, provided a direct hit run out with the score 5/115 and Grammar only needing eight to win.
Grammar passed Collie's score in the 27th over, but birthday boy Jackson Broadbent then gave Collie something to smile about.
On his 13th birthday, big Broady took three wickets in his fourth over and just missed a hat-trick.
First ball of his next over he took a caught and bowled to complete a five-wicket haul.
Broadbent finished with five overs 5/21 and Grammar finished 9/148.
Grammar won by 26 runs.
