Last Saturday the Year 8s travelled down the hill to take on Colts.
After suffering their first loss the previous week and with Colts sitting third, this was going to be a good test to see how the Collie boys could respond to the loss last week.
Collie won the toss and chose to bat with Josh Elliott and Baxter Miller opening.
Miller was bowled for two in the second over with the score on five and that saw Adam Worlley join Elliott in the middle.
This pair batted well together and brought up Collie's first 50 in only the eighth over.
The boys kept the foot down with great calling and hard running between the wickets, getting Collie to 1/95 after 15 overs with Elliott on 42 and Worlley 35.
Only 24 of the runs were boundaries and the pair showed that 1's and 2's are just as important in good scores.
Jackson Broadbent (3 overs 0/7) opened the bowling with Robbie Chitty (3 overs 0/11) and both started well.
The first wicket fell with the score on five, thanks to a run out, when Judd Rinder calmly lobbed the ball to Broadbent after good communication from the boys.
The second wicket fell to another run out with the score on 19, thanks to a sharp piece of fielding from Max Ireland who hit the stumps direct.
Liam Wilson bowled 3 overs 0/9 and then Taj Jackson made it 3/35 when he picked up a wicket bowled.
The score then became 4/40 with another direct hit run out, this time by Adam Worlley.
Jackson then picked up his second wicket caught by Blayden Coverley to finish with 3 overs 2/14, and Colts were in trouble at 5/44. Max Ireland then added to the great start and picked up a wicket bowled to make it 6/44. Ireland finished with 3 overs 1/5 and after 15 overs Colts were 6/48.
Josh Elliott and Adam Worlley were sent back out to push for well deserved 50s. When Elliott hit a four in the 19th over he brought up his half century and the 100-run partnership. Elliott retired on 52, his second 50 in a row after making his first ever one the week before in the Wellington District game.
Judd Rinder came in and hit the ball well, scoring 14 before being caught with the score 2/135. Worlley then brought up his first ever 50 before being retired.
Zak Reuben batted till the end and scored eight not out. Blayden Coverley was bowled for 10 after hitting his first 6 and the first for the team this season.
With the rest of the batsman chasing quick runs, Max Ireland was caught for 0, Robbie Chitty caught for two and Jackson Broadbent two not out. Collie finished 5/166 after 30 overs.
With Colts resuming on 6/48, the Collie boys were aiming for a quick finish. Zak Reuben bowled two overs for two maidens, then Blayden Coverley found himself on a hat-trick with a wicket caught by Josh Elliott and one bowled. He couldn't manage the third and finished with two overs 2/2 and Colts were 8/48.
Zak Reuben made it 9/50 with the third direct hit run out for the day and fourth all up; a very good sign that the team was switched on from the start.
Judd Rinder finished things off with a wicket bowled to have 1/1 from 2 balls and Colts all out for 51.
