Popular Boyup Brook golfer Les Marsden was the winner of last Saturday’s 18-hole par event for the Keith Martin trophy at Collie Golf Club.
The event, which attracted a field of 60, produced two scores of plus four, with Marsden winning a tight countback from the evergreen Jim Moyses who had to settle for a voucher.
Boyup players figured prominently on the day with Ian Tweedie’s plus three giving him third spot on a countback while Chris Mead was rewarded for finishing square.
Ross Davidson kept his head down when compiling plus three to be relegated to fourth on a countback, with Eric Annandale and Wayne Waywood posting plus two and Mun Lye plus one.
Scores of square were returned by Ron Annandale, Phil Warburton, Alan Savage and Keith Russell.
Terri Gianola was the bests of the ladies with plus four – a whopping five strokes better than runner-up Michelle Tate on minus one.
Nearest the pin winners were Geoff Lee and Dot Lawrence (No. 4), Phil Warburton (7) and Ross Davidson (14). Longest putts were sunk by Clive Pullan (6), Brett Smith (9) and Mun Lye (18). Longest drive on No. 15 went to Kyle Hulls.
Jim Hine won a spin-of-the-wheel to take last Thursday’s nine-hole scroungers event from big David Broadbent.
Hine and Broadbent had 21 points to be one better than Fred Bronickis, Clive Pullan, Mick Pokrywka and Alan Kent on 20.
Steve Gianola, Ron Annandale, Ian Stewart, Dean Rakich and Joe Italiano scored at better than two points a hole to finish on 19.
Rakich also won a spin-of-the-wheel for best gross score – 39 off-the-stick. Ray McGill (No. 4), Dean Rakich (6) and Jim Hine (9) won the novelties.
Alby Hunter broke through for his maiden 18-hole win in last week’s Tuesday leisure day stableford.
Hunter scored 43 points to be just one better than Graham Williams who added deft touch around the greens to his repertoire for a fine 42, with Trevor McCormick one further back on 41.
The day’s best vet was Mun Lye on 38, a score also returned by Ken Tate.
Neil Motion had 37 while grouped together on 36 were Gary Old, Brian Banks, Trevor Graham and Phil Warburton.
Ken Tate (No. 4), Jim Lee (7), Frank Battista (9), Graham Williams (14) and David Broadbent (18) won the novelties.
