The Collie Swimming Club is the proud new owner of a new high-quality start system that will benefit not only swim club members but many others in the Collie Community.
The Infinity System is a state-of-the-art starter control unit which has replaced the aging battery-operated model the club has used for decades.
After months of fundraising, the club invested in the new system just before Christmas and has already used it for time trials that were held in mid-December.
Club president Wayne Bentley said without the support of the generous people of Collie, the Swimming Club wouldn’t have been able to buy the equipment.
“Thank you to everyone who has purchased raffle tickets, had their car washed by our swimmers or bought a sausage sizzle from us over the last year. It means we have been able to invest in a top quality start system that will allow for our swimmers to be familiar with the same equipment that is used throughout the South West region and at larger metropolitan swim meets,” Mr Bentley said.
Schools will be able to use the new start system when their swim carnivals, run by members of the Collie Swimming Club, start in the first term of new school year.
“It’s great that we can give back to community and share our new equipment with [local students] when they participate in school swimming carnivals,” Mr Bentley said.
“I’m sure people will notice the difference and the improvement in setting and releasing swimmers from the blocks at the Collie Pool.
The Collie Swimming Club will host the Collie Open on Sunday, March 11 when swimmers from all over the state represent their clubs at the Collie Mineworkers Memorial Pool.
